Beyond LLMs: The Rise of Artificial Cognition
About this session
As AI rapidly evolves from chatbots to autonomous agents, we're seeing a fundamental shift in how intelligent systems are designed. The next breakthrough may not come from larger models or more parameters, but from integrating human-inspired cognitive capabilities into AI.
Based on a systematic review of 329 research studies, this talk introduces the emerging concept of Artificial Cognition, a new framework that brings together capabilities such as Theory of Mind, metacognition, memory, cognitive biases, and narrative reasoning into a unified perspective on next-generation AI.
Rather than focusing on individual features, we'll explore how these cognitive capabilities work together to create more adaptive, trustworthy, and context-aware AI systems. The session will also discuss what this shift means for AI builders, startups, product teams, and enterprise adoption, and why understanding cognition may become one of the defining competitive advantages in the next wave of AI.
Key takeaways:
Why AI is moving beyond isolated capabilities toward integrated cognition. The five cognitive dimensions shaping next-generation AI systems. How cognitive principles can influence AI agents, LLMs, and enterprise AI design. What Artificial Cognition means for the future of AI innovation.
