Enabling the Future: Democratizing AI Skills Scaling

About this session

In less than two years, generative AI has evolved from a promising innovation into a critical, revolutionary part of the knowledge-based economy. Coursera, which is one of the largest online learning platforms with over 191 million learners worldwide, has seen GenAI become the fastest-growing skills category in its history. Today, Coursera has over 1,000 GenAI courses and 14 enrollments per minute, reflecting 234% year-over-year growth in AI-related learning. Even more significantly, the use of these tools is deeply tied to education, signaling a structural transformation in how skills are developed at global scale.

In this session, Cristina will share how Coursera is redesigning talent development through GenAI Skills Tracks. These structured pathways combine technical foundations—such as machine learning, automation, and data analysis—with critical human capabilities, including critical thinking, validation, and responsible technology use. He will also reflect on partnership-driven models such as Vincula LAC, a regional initiative implemented with The World Bank to expand access to AI and digital skills across Latin America and the Caribbean. Vincula LAC demonstrates how strategic public-private collaboration can amplify best practices, facilitate peer-to-peer learning among countries, and scale inclusive digital talent pipelines aligned with national workforce strategies.

He will also highlight how tools like Coursera Coach and Course Builder leverage AI to personalize learning, accelerate content creation, and expand access to high-quality education. The session also will explore how to build skills ecosystems that enable inclusive, ethical, and sustainable AI adoption across education systems and national workforce strategies.
